My Benchmark

There are moments in one's life that work as benchmarks of our future. One's first job, one's first house or one's first baby. It is very important for people to keep these dates well recorded and documented.

In that spirit, I am here, documenting perhaps the most important day of my life: my destitution.

I did not expect it to be like this, so cold, so sudden. But the umbilical cord I have been carrying for over 25 years has finally been cut, and by the looks of it, there is no way back. The financial bubble that has protected me from all the evils of the world has been ripped and with much fear and uncertainty I must face this world naked, away from family connections and in a foreign land that struggles to accept me.

Today, I mark the start of my journey back home.

Dear sister, parents, grandparents, cousins and uncles, consider this to be a thank you letter to you all.

Because of your efforts, I carry with me experiences imagined by few,

Because of your efforts, I have an unbreakable character and an imaginative mind,

Because of your efforts, I have a heart filled with ideologies and memories,

Because of your efforts, I have learned to love,

Because of your efforts, I am who I am,

Thank you

I know you miss me and want me back. But you value my financial independence more than my abstinence. Therefore you must wait a bit longer.
