Cover Letter

I have just finished writing a cover letter that I hope will help me get a job. I am sharing it here with you, let me know what you think:

I don't like the idea of selling my self, of convincing you that I am better than the CV you have just read or the one you are about to read, reality is, I am not. If you think about most of the merits that I have gained throughout my life, I could say that they are a consequence of collective efforts and a bit of luck. Take for instance all the language skills that I have; but if you live in a bilingual environment from an early age you are bound to acquire those skills. I was born in Bolivia from Brazilian parents and as a consequence of this I can speak Spanish and Portuguese; but who wouldn't under those circumstances?

What about my ability to relate to others, or to achieve goals without the need to step over people's feelings? I could easily say that this is a by-product of living. Sharing my time between Bolivia, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand had taught me that although people may share similar values we are all different. We believe in different things we like different things, we live our lives differently from everyone else's; but because we are human beings, regardless of our differences, we are always able to find a common ground, to find a place where we can let our guards down and move forward. But one does not need to live in many nations to understand this, all it takes is to look around. I am not saying this in the sense of race, ethnicity or nationality, although these are variables that account to our personalities they are not the sole factors that distinguish us. Perhaps I should use the term talk around instead; because the more we talk to those next to us, the more we understand our differences, but as we talk, we start to find our similarities and our similarities are what often drives us closer.

I don't believe that a simple letter will ever be able to tell you who I am, it takes a life time to find that out. But I am writing this to you because I admire the work that you do and feel compelled to join you. I can't promise to do a better job than the other applicants, mainly because I do not know who they are. But what I can promise, is that I will dedicate my life so we can both move forward and in this case, take a bunch of people along with us.

Fingers crossed, I hope this effort takes me somewhere.

Just something on the side:
I live across the road from a kinder garden, and I can look at kids on the playground from my balcony. Superman has often attracted my attention, today however, he is batman and he has given his cape to his girlfriend...
What a pleasant sight.
